Greening hotels and offices without gas

We remove the gas from a building that is simply in use. We create a step-by-step plan, replace gas-fired installations with heat pump technology, and ensure that each step fits into the next.

Greening without gas

Step by step off the gas

Going gas-free doesn’t have to happen all at once. However, every step must align with the end goal. An installation that is being replaced now must be able to work with the next step in the future.

In hotel The Dylan, a direct transition to a bottom-fed system was not yet possible. Therefore, we installed an HVRF system that largely makes the hotel gas-free and is already prepared for a later WKO connection.

  1. Inventory

Existing installations, energy consumption, insulation and hot water demand.

  2. Action plan

Which step comes first, what it yields and how the steps connect with each other.

  3. Implementation

Gradually, with as little disruption as possible for guests or users.

  4. Adjusting and monitoring

After completion, we fine-tune the installation to suit actual use.

Why building owners are now going green

Energy label

Office buildings must, as of January 1, 2023, have at least an energy label C. A gas-free installation helps achieve and maintain that label.

Lower dependence on gas

With an all-electric installation, you are no longer dependent on the gas price and can use your own solar power.

Comfort and value

A heat pump system can also cool the building, making it more appealing to guests and tenants.

Frequently asked questions

Can a monumental building be made gas-free?

Often yes, but with customization. There are strict requirements for installations on roofs and facades. In The Dylan on Keizersgracht we found a solution that met these requirements.

What if the building isn't already well insulated?

Then we look at the order of things. Sometimes isolation is wise first, but a heat pump system can already save a lot of gas. The roadmap makes that clear.

Should the building be closed during the work?

No, that is rarely necessary. At The Dylan and The Albus, the hotel remained open during the performance.
